Orange and blue
Red and green-gold
Light in purple wells
The festival of counterparts
Dance with a universal beat.

Festival of Colors

I love color - I really do. When working with color I try to make my colors not only compatible or complimentary but to "sing together.

One Small Box of Colors.jpgsmall

One small box
Filled with dry and dull colors
Who will be the one to use you?
One will try and
Only chaos and inharmony
  will result
Another will produce a symphony
With shades of joy - of pathos
And insufferable beauty
Shall I close the box and hide it?
Holding its beauty undefiled
Locked in its small space
Struggling for freedom
Or shall I give it
  to the one who understands?

Green Paper Holes.jpg - small

Green Paper holes
To pass thru
Where waste wants not
Shadows change against the true
Pasted like posters
Plentiful and pure.

Green Paper Holes, 1978 Collage and Tempra, 13" x 20"

Mermaids Packed for Shipping

On the wings of the wind
The South Sind
I seek
among the bright stars.
I find
a tree, a bird, a leaf
a river, a rock, a frog
Still seek
The unopened door.

Mermaids Packed for Shipping, 1978 Felt pen on paper, 14" x 17"

Oak Trees in Bloom.jpg small

I'd like to drive a truck through the night
Green taffeta leaves flare from the bush
While beacon #3 dots a message in an unknown tongue
And civilization is alive at two.

Oak Trees in Bloom, 1955 Watercolor & Tempra, 12" x 18"

Blue Shield.jpg -small

The dark circle moves
convergining lines of blue
Lead thru it
to the yellow speck
Infinitely far
