The Art of

Nancy

Terrell

This website is a journal of artist Nancy Terrell and has been created for her grandchildren - Lauren, Christian, Hannah, Lukie and Liana to show them that experimentation, in artistic ways, is fun and brings much enjoyment.

"I hope that I can pass on to you the wonder I have for life - a source of great joy - that most of us are born with ten fingers & toes that can play in the sand, stroke our pets and caress our loved ones.  We have beautiful eyes that can see the stars & moon at night and enjoy the paradise of trees and flowers, grown by the sun in the daylight.  Our arms and feet enable us to swim, walk, run, jump - everything but fly - but many of us even do this at night in our dreams.

How is it possible that we live amid such creative energy and rarely seem to notice it?  It's simple - we just have to open our eyes wide and "see" in as many different ways as possible.  This is why poets and philosophers, thoughout the ages, have been called "seers". Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder so always look at yourself and what you create as beautiful and worthwhile.  Your creations are your essence - the "isness" of you.  Open your eyes, look at things upside down, lying on their side and in different colors and shapes.  Experiment !!  Have fun !!  There is no wrong - if you don't like the way something turns out, just redo it - simple.

We are all quite fortunate in that we were granted millions of ways to use our creative juices.  Some paint, others dance, some love physics, others sewing - it matters not what you do or really even how you do it.  What matters is the enjoyment.  For life is really not about jobs or money, what you own or where you travel - it is about living - each day on this planet - in complete harmony, peace, love and enjoyment.

So lets try to appreciate the journey of our path. These pages are personal - for my friends, family and grandchildren.  I would like to think that they will enjoy creating and the process of making artistic designs as much as I have.  Ciao!"

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

Nancy Terrell is an internationally known and collected artist specializing in whimsical paintings and mixed media that show her love of children, fun and a “happy” way of seeing.  Known as “Miss Nancy” to millions of American children on TV’s Romper Room, in the 1960s and 70s, she has continued her love of childhood and fantasy into a true love of painting, collage and design today.

Nancy spent 30 years as an expiate in the Caribbean, South America, Panama, Central America, Mexico and Hawaii while cruising with her life partner, Dave Cooper, on various boats they owned.  During this time Nancy worked as an International Feature Writer covering sailing, regattas and water sports for many international magazines and newspapers.

She set up an art studio in the cockpit on their last boat Swan Song, a 65’ classic trawler that she and Dave cruised on, throughout the Western Hemisphere, for 18 years.  She was a member of two painting groups in the British Virgin Islands, a contributor to the Tillet Gardens Arts Alive in St Thomas, Eco Art in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela, the La Paz Art Association and the Hawaii Art Association.

Having now retired to Cape Coral, Florida, Nancy belongs to the Fort Meyers Art League, the Alliance for the Arts of Lee County and the National Collage Society.  She now has a proper studio and can spread out her art materials.
